Ian Maxwell has been confirmed in the newly-created position of general manager at Partick Thistle. The former Jags defender, who was No 2 at Firhill until Ian McCall resigned as manager earlier this month, will act as a buffer between the team and the board. Jackie McNamara was appointed caretaker manager following McCall's exit and is favourite to land the position on a permanent basis.

Cameron ban a blow for Cowdenbeath

Cowdenbeath's hopes of avoiding the relegation play-off spot at the foot of the First Division have been dealt a blow with the news that player-assistant Colin Cameron will miss the final two games of the season through suspension. Cowdenbeath trail Ross County by three points - with a vastly inferior goal difference - with only two matches left, at home to Stirling Albion and away to County.

FA to act on Twitter outburst by Gabbidon

West Ham's Danny Gabbidon has been handed an "improper conduct" charge by the FA following comments posted on Twitter. Gabbidon posted an foul-mouthed message after his side's 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on 16 April. He wrote: "U know what, f*** the lot of you, u will never get another tweet from me again, you just don't get it do you. Bye bye."

Thorn now officially Coventry manager

Coventry have confirmed the appointment of Andy Thorn as the club's permanent manager. Thorn has steered the midlands club to Championship safety since taking the reins from Aidy Boothroyd on a caretaker basis six weeks ago. The former chief scout is a popular appointment among players and fans having introduced an attractive brand of passing, attacking play during his short stint in charge.

Hart and McParland pay price at Swindon

Interim manager Paul Hart and assistant Ian McParland have left Swindon with immediate effect following Town's relegation to League Two. Hart was handed the reins until the end of the season and charged with the task of guiding the Wiltshire outfit to safety after Danny Wilson resigned in March. But he won just one of his 11 games, culminating in Monday's 3-1 defeat at Sheffield Wednesday which confirmed the Robins' relegation.
