Football news: Hearts stadium plans held up by red tape

Hearts managing director David Southern admits the club's bid to redevelop Tynecastle is being held up by red tape.

The Gorgie outfit announced revised plans for the dated main stand in March after conceding a 51 million revamp, including building offices and a hotel, was too ambitious.

Taking into account the financial climate, owner Vladimir Romanov is now looking to replace the existing structure with a new stand costing in the region of 10 to 15 million, shelving plans for a wider regeneration of the area in the process. However, Southern has revealed the stadium's proximity to the neighbouring distillery plant throws up a list of health and safety issues.

He said: "The situation with the stand is protracted and we are continuing our talks with the council. We've asked for a further eight to ten weeks for us to do some assessments and studies."

Portsmouth safe

Portsmouth's future should be assured after lawyers representing former owner Sacha Gaydamak revealed an agreement with the club would be signed last night.

Tim Stocks of Gaydamak's lawyers Taylor Wessing said he would be recommending to the business tycoon that he signs the deal with Portsmouth regarding the payment schedule of 2.2million owed to him.

The club had claimed they were on the brink of ceasing trading because Gaydamak had refused to sign the deal.

Stocks insists there was merely some technical details to be agreed and that there was never any threat to the club.
