Football news: Challenge Cup final called off

TODAY's Alba Challenge Cup final between Queen of the South and Ross County has been postponed due to severe weather warnings. The match at McDiarmid Park was called off by the Scottish Football League after talks with both clubs and the police, with concern expressed over the state of the roads due to snow and ice.

No new date for the final has been agreed yet but tickets bought by supporters will be valid for the re-arranged date.

Yesterday's Scottish Cup third round replay between Beith and Airdrie United was also called off, as were all matches in the Highland League.

Moyes keen to bring Beckham to Everton

Everton manager David Moyes is interested in bringing David Beckham to Goodison.

Moyes knows the midfielder from their time playing together at Preston, where Beckham was on loan in 1995 early in his career. Moyes says if Beckham "came and said to me, 'I would like to come' ... I would have to go to the chairman and ask if we could do it."

Arnesen exits Chelsea

Chelsea'S sporting director Frank Arnesen will leave at the end of the season when his contract expires, the second member of the English champions' off-field team to announce this month that he is departing.

The 54-year-old Dane said he wants to "seek a new challenge" having spent six years at Chelsea after being lured from Tottenham.

Assistant coach Ray Wilkins left Chelsea in apparent acrimonious circumstances when the club decided on 11 November not to renew his contract, which was due to expire at the end of the season. Wilkins is now taking legal advice.

Mandaric buys Wednesday

Milan Mandaric has agreed an 8m deal to buy Sheffield Wednesday and the takeover must now be rubber-stamped by the club's shareholders at an extraordinary general meeting. The 72-year-old Serbian-born businessman will now resign as chairman of Leicester City.

United sign Danish goalkeeper

Manchester United have completed the signing of Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard from Aalesunds FK on a three-and-a-half year deal for an undisclosed fee.

The 26-year-old will train with United next month but will not formally join the Red Devils until the transfer window opens in January. He has been capped four times by Denmark.
