Football news in brief: Song heavily fined after Eto'o handshake snub

Arsenal midfielder Alex Song has been fined by Cameroon's football federation for showing an "attitude of contempt" towards international captain Samuel Eto'o.

The Federation Camerounaise de Football announced that the 23-year-old had been fined one million Central African francs (1,355) after he refused to shake Eto'o's hand before the Indomitable Lions' African Nations Cup qualifier against Senegal on 4 June. Song Alessandro Lucci has not played for his country since falling out with Eto'o during the World Cup.

Agent rules out Vucinic link with Blackburn

Mirko Vucinic's agent has ruled the Roma striker out of a move to Blackburn, saying he deserves a "more prestigious" club. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move to the Barclays Premier League and to Roma's Serie A rivals Juventus despite having two years remaining on his contract. But Ewood Park is not a potential destination for the Montenegro international "Blackburn talk is just a rumour," added representative Alessandro Lucci.

Spain add European U21 title to other crowns

Ander Herrera and Thiago Alcantara scored the goals as Spain beat Switzerland 2-0 on Saturday to win the European Under-21 championship in Denmark. Spain, dominant at senior level where they are the world and European champions, sealed their third continental Under-21 title thanks to a first-half header from Herrera and an audacious free kick from Alcantara in the 81st minute. Belarus took third place after they beat Czech Republic 1-0.

Muir in the middle when Champions League begins

Scottish referee Alan Muir has the honour of blowing the first whistle of the new season when he takes charge of a Uefa Champions League first round qualifying game tomorrow night.

Muir, who took charge of Celtic's final match of the SPL season, the 4-0 win over Motherwell, is in San Marino to handle the first leg match between SP Tre Fiori and Maltese side Valletta where he will be assisted by Scots James Bee and Brian Templeton with Brian Colvin appointed as the fourth official.

Glasgow City sit proudly atop women's league

The Scottish Women's Premier League now breaks for four weeks, and at the halfway stage reigning Champions Glasgow City sit six points clear of second-placed Hibernian, with Forfar in third. Forfar's great run was extended at the weekend with a 2-0 win over Inverness, meaning that Spartans drop to fourth with Celtic even further behind in fifth. Now 11 points off the lead, Celtic seem out of the title race after losing 6-4 to Spartans, with a Sarah Ewens hat-trick setting up the victory. Kilmarnock pulled off a 2-0 win over Falkirk.
