Football news in brief: Double by Duffy takes Hay back to Broadwood

CLYDE have added two players for next season, with defender Paul Hay returning to Broadwood from East Stirling, and Bully Wee manager Jim Duffy venturing north to his former club Brechin to capture striker Mark Archdeacon.

Hay left the Cumbernauld side a decade ago for Stirling Albion and then East Stirling, whereas Archdeacon has seen service at Motherwell, Albion Rovers and Stenhousemuir as well as the Second Division Glebe Park outfit.

Airdrie add Lilley and juniors striker to squad

AIRDRIE United have signed Queen of the South captain David Lilley and goal-grabber John Boyle from Emirates Junior Cup winners Auchinleck Talbot to their squad. Lilley, 33, heads to the Diamonds after two years at Palmerston, having also donned the colours of Aberdeen, Partick Thistle and Kilmarnock.

Boyle netted 18 times last season, and Airdrie boss Jimmy Boyle said: "David has tremendous experience that will be invaluable to our young squad, and John is a local lad who is really determined to do well for Airdrie."

Youth coach Scally departs Palmerston

QUEEN of the South's player/assistant manager and under-19 coach Neil Scally has left the club in the wake of the appointment of the management team of Gus McPherson and Andy Millen.

Scally was praised by Dumfries officials with a spokesperson saying: "There are a lot of promising players at Queen of the South and credit must go to Neil Scally for bringing all those youngsters on and it was very sad to see Neil depart."

Weekend format for Bayview tournament

THE format for the pre-season tournament being held by East Fife at Bayview Stadium on Saturday, 16 July and Sunday, 17 July has been announced.

The hosts will meet Fife neighbours Raith Rovers in the opening game which will kick off 1pm, with Paul Sturrock's Southend United facing Dundee at 3.15pm.

The two losing sides will meet the following day in a third place play-off that kicks off at 1pm with the final starting at 3.15pm.

Annan stay local for pre-season games

ANNAN Athletic have arranged four friendlies as part of their build-up to the new season, with Harry Cairney's men opening up at Newton Stewart when they face Threave Rovers on 2 July.

The Black and Golds will stay local when they travel to meet Dalbeattie Star on 6 July before heading to Ochilview to meet Second Division Stenhousemuir on 9 July.

Annan's Galabank ground will host a Dumfriesshire derby on Saturday, 16 July, when First Division Queen of the South visit.
