Football: Bo'ness ready to pounce on any Rose slip

BO'NESS UNITED can clinch the East Region Super League title tomorrow – but only if they beat Hill of Beath and Linlithgow Rose slip up at home to Newtongrange Star.

After winning 4-1 at Bathgate in midweek, Lithgae are now the only side that can catch the league leaders and, even then, it's a tall order.

If David Baikie's men win their eight remaining matches, they'd have 48 points and Bo'ness are currently standing on 42 with three games to go. After tomorrow's game, Alan McGonigal's men are away to Camelon next Saturday and, if the title's still not wrapped up by then, a tasty encounter lies in store when Linlithgow visit Newtown Park on Saturday, 29 May.

"I was hoping Bathgate might have done us a favour the other night by taking a point against Linlithgow but it wasn't to be," said McGonigal.

"In any case, we don't really need to worry what's happening over our shoulder. Our destiny is in our own hands and all the pressure is on Linlithgow as they need to win all of their remaining games."

Midfielder Andy Shirra, the most consistent Bo'ness player this year in the eyes of his manager, misses tomorrow's game due to a two-game ban but McGonigal has a tailor-made replacement in Jamie Hay after his return from Alloa.

In tomorrow's other top-flight games, Musselburgh make their return to Olivebank when they entertain Kelty, Whitburn are at home to Camelon while Bathgate and Bonnyrigg meet for the second time in just over a week.
