Five Scots in Euro teams

Scotland will be represented by five athletes in Team GB & NI at the European Cross Country Championships in Hungary next month.

UK Athletics have named the various age-group teams, with six runners in each, to complete a 36-strong travelling party for the event on Sunday 9
December. There were six Scots in Slovenia last year and this time a completely different five head for Hungary. There are call-ups for Rosie Smith (Hunters Bog Trotters), Beth Potter (City of Glasgow AC), Scott McDonald (Central AC), Rhona Auckland (Banchory Stonehaven) and Luke Traynor (Giffnock North AC).

With the likes of Freya Murray, Derek Hawkins and Steph Twell not taking part in the trial races in Liverpool last Saturday and US-based Matt Gillespie absent through injury, the Scottish representation looks encouraging in terms of endurance depth and again is above the population percentage ratio to be
expected (13 per cent of GB team on this occasion).

Under-20 athletes Auckland and Traynor are particularly pleased to have earned vests at this level for the first time.
