Fishing: Have some fun and raise funds for our golden team

To compete at the highest level in any sport it is essential to get the right backing or sponsorship. And it is no different for Team Scotland, who were last year's gold medal winning disabled fly fishing champions.

A fun day fundraiser is being held on the New Watch Fishery in Longformarcus in the Borders to which all are invited on Sunday, March 20 at 9.00am. Entry is priced at 35 for four fish then catch and release thereafter with lunch thrown in. The winner will pick up 100 for their efforts.

Other prizes and raffles will be awarded on the day which the organisers hope will be a great success.

No matter what your skill level is there is the possibility of winning a prize of some description as well as the fish of a lifetime. The funds generated will go in some way to help the team compete in the forthcoming home internationals in Ireland. For further details and booking contact Jim Curry on 01294 218836 or the fishery direct.

Elsewhere, it was open season on the Isle of Bute where some big names in angling were out for the first competition of the season. Stirling man Iain Earle landed the spoils with 15 fish, one of which was more than 10lb.
