First Division: Dunfermline bounce back as Fife clubs enjoy treble

League leaders Dunfermline showed no ill effects following their 7-2 drubbing at the hands of Rangers in their midweek Co-operative Insurance Cup tie as Jim McIntyre's men returned to Glasgow to defeat Partick Thistle 2-0.

Pat Clarke was restored to the Pars starting line up and he shot home from 25 yards to open the scoring in 28 minutes and the win was sealed with 20 minutes left when Steven McDougall's shot hit the woodwork with the loose ball striking Andy Kirk on the knee and ending up in the net.

McIntyre said: "I had been saying that the Rangers came would not affect us in a negative way as we had a real go at them. We made a few defensive mistakes that night and worked on that before this game. There was not much between us and Thistle but I am delighted to be leaving with the three points."

Thistle manager Ian McCall added: "I am sure there are better times ahead but this season is now all about staying up."

Raith Rovers kept hold of their unbeaten league record and brought Falkirk crashing down to earth after their midweek heroics against Hearts by defeating Steven Pressley's side 2-1 at Stark's Park

The Bairns opened the scoring after just seven minutes when Ryan Flynn got on the end of a Mark Stewart pass, but a mix up between goalkeeper Robert Olejnik and defender Brian McLean allowed Gregory Tade to equalise on 38 minutes.

The winner came from an unlikely source 12 minutes from time when former Brechin City defender Willie Dyer sent in a speculative shot from 35 yards that beat Olejnik for his first goal in almost two years.

The Kirkcaldy fans also had the welcome sight of defender Mark Campbell returning to action as a last-minute substitute to cheer, after seven months out following a car crash.

Manager John McGlynn said: "I am very pleased with our performance and I am very pleased with where we are this season. We are showing that we can mix it with the best teams in this league."

With all the negative attention surrounding Dundee just now, it would be remiss for Cowdenbeath not to be praised for making a hat-trick of Fife wins by defeating the Dark Blues 2-1 at Central Park.

The Blue Brazil took the lead after 14 minutes when Mark Ramsay fired in after a John Dempster shot had been deflected into his path and right on half time Brian Fairbairn fired in a 30-yard free kick past Rab Douglas.

Leigh Griffiths got a goal back in 81 minutes and hit the bar but it was too little, too late from Gordon Chisholm's side.

Jubilant Cowdenbeath boss Jimmy Nicholl said: "Our lads keep doing themselves proud. We battled hard to get this result, defended well despite losing Joe Mbu before the game and John Armstrong during it. Our goalkeeper David Hay was outstanding again."

Morton and Ross County could not be separated at Cappielow in a goalless draw, the same outcome in Dumfries as Queen of the South entertained Stirling Albion.
