Feruz strikes again but Under-17s finish sixth

ISLAM Feruz underlined his potential by scoring for a fourth international match in a row in the Nordic Cup as Scotland's Under-17s drew 1-1 with Iceland in Vassa, Finland.

The Scots, however, had to settle for sixth place in the competition after losing out in a penalty shoot-out that saw 15 penalties converted.

Somalia-born Feruz, who is on Celtic's books, headed Scotland in front ten minutes from half-time after fine wing play by Kilmarnock's Matthew Kennedy, who beat two men before sending in a great cross. Iceland fought back strongly in the second half but Scotland looked to be holding out until Parkhead youngster Mohammed Yaqub was harshly judged to have fouled in the box with six minutes left. The penalty was scored and to determine the final rankings the sides took part in a penalty shoot-out.

England won the tournament by defeating Sweden 2-1.
