Fans in charity drive

A GROUP of Hibs fans, led by Lawrence Stewart, are to play 72 holes in the one day to raise money for a cancer charity – and they're being backed by John Hughes.

Stewart, 31, from Bathgate, and 11 of his Hibs-mad friends are playing at Bathgate, Uphall, Harburn and Dalmahoy in the Longest Day Golf Challenge for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Having beaten cancer eight times in the past 18 years, Stewart hopes to raise thousands of pounds for the charity which has supported him during his illnesses.

Supported by his wife Lynsey and young family Rachel, six, and Abbie, two, Stewart and his friends hope to raise awareness of the good work undertaken by Macmillan Cancer Support and are aiming to raise more than 10, 000 for the challenge. "This is a way to say thank you to Macmillan as they have been there for my wife and family throughout my illnesses," he said. "I am a massive Hibs supporter."

The group will tee off at Bathgate at 6.00am before heading to Uphall (10.00am), Harburn (2.00pm) and, finally, Dalmahoy (6.00pm).
