Fans given Derby Day incentive to buy tickets for France game at Murrayfield

SCOTTISH rugby supporters who buy a ticket for the RBS Six Nations clash with France before 16 December will receive a free ticket to the east v west derby, the 1872 Cup, Edinburgh v Glasgow on Boxing Day. One thousand tickets will also be made available for the return leg at Firhill on New Year’s Day on a first come, first served basis.

It means fans could save up to £20 on the cost of two matches. Tickets for the France game start at £35 for an adult and £17.50 for students/under-18s.

Dominic McKay, director of communications and public affairs at the SRU, said: “This gift is to thank our supporters for their backing throughout the last 12 months. The support has been tremendous, particularly during the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand, and I know the players take a lot of encouragement from that. These are also difficult economic times and we felt it right to give something back to rugby fans across the country. Tickets have been selling well and we would encourage supporters to use our new seat-finder system on the website and buy early.”

Edinburgh full-back Chris Paterson added: “The Edinburgh v Warriors game is always a bit special. We’ve had some great crowds for the game in previous years but, with people taking up this offer, it could be an incredible atmosphere. We want to see as many people as possible at Murrayfield on Boxing Day and this gives them an added reason to go.”

The full terms and conditions of the offer, including information for season tickets holders of Edinburgh and Glasgow, are available on www.scottishrugby.org/france.
