Europa draw ticks another box for Kris Commons

KRIS COMMONS is looking forward to ticking off another box by playing in the Europa League with Celtic next season.

The Scotland midfielder, 27, will experience European football at club level for the first time when the Hoops take on Swiss side Sion in their Europa League play-off later this month.

Commons who joined Celtic from Derby in January, said: "Every aspect of joining Celtic ticked every single box.

"When you join a club like Celtic you are challenging for every cup and every league that you are involved in but Europe is a massive plus for me.

"Since joining I have looked forward to being involved in Europe and it is always nice to play against the bigger clubs in Europe and I'm striving to do that this year.

"I want to try to do well and make a name for myself there."

The other half of the Old Firm, Rangers, were handed a tricky task against Slovenian side Maribor, who knocked out Hibs in last year's Europa League. The first leg will be played in Slovenia.

Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, another of Hibs' old European foes, face Fulham, while Stoke City were drawn against Swiss side FC Thun and Birmingham City were handed a tie against Nacional Madeira.
