England end Scots' challenge in Crail

Scotland's hopes of success in the Senior Home Internationals were ended by a defeat to England in the second round of matches at Crail yesterday.

The Scots, who opened their campaign with a draw against Wales, went down 5-3. Trailing 2-1 after the morning foursomes, wins for Tony Stafford, Colin Christy and a half point from Jim Watt were unable to prevent a victory for the new European champions.

Defending champions Ireland need just a draw from their final match with the Scots today to clinch a third title in a row after their 6-2 win over Wales.
