Emma's Gift can lift Newbury Rose Bowl

EMMA'S Gift will find life much easier in the Listed Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury today.

She was unfortunate to bump into a truly top-notch performer at Royal Ascot, but compensation awaits.

Winner of a Bath maiden, trainer Julia Feilden opted to pitch her in at the deep end in the Albany Stakes, where she was beaten less than four lengths into fifth by Memory.

That filly has since proved her superstar credentials with a breathtaking victory in the Cherry Hinton, a race in which the Albany fourth filled the same position again.

The form obviously bears the closest inspection and given that Emma's Gift raced on the unfavoured far side at Ascot, her performance can probably be rated a shade better still.

She stayed on in game style that day and the step up to six furlongs from the minimum trip seemed to suit her admirably.

Jonjo O'Neill is hardly famed for his strike-rate with sprinters, but his Volito can do the business in the TKP Surfacing Handicap. Third on his comeback after a lengthy absence, Volito stepped up on that when just edged out by a nose at Bath earlier in the month. He has gone up 2lb for that defeat but granted some luck here, he can defy that rise.

Elnawin has not hit the target for nearly two years now but he can gain a deserved success in the Henbrandt Conditions Stakes at Newmarket.

The four-year-old has not got his head in front since landing a Kempton Group Three back in September 2008, but he has been knocking on the door since.

A narrow defeat in Listed company at Salisbury last month must have been heartbreaking for trainer Richard Hannon, while nothing went his way when third in Group Three company in Ireland last time. Taking a dip in class, Elnawin must surely be able to grab his chance in what looks a relatively weak heat for its grade.

Walvis Bay can exploit a 2lb drop in his rating in Haydock's Parry & Company Handicap. The three-year-old won once as a juvenile but had been finding it tough in handicap company after being allotted an initial mark of 84. Out of the frame on his reappearance this term, Walvis Bay showed improved form to finish third at the Merseyside venue last time and off his reduced rating of 81, he merits close inspection.

Mejd was a winner at Chester last Saturday and he can capitalise as he makes a quick reappearance without a penalty in Nottingham's digibet.com Handicap.

Brigadoon can go well in the Colstrope Cup Handicap at Pontefract, with 8-1 shot Bonny Charlie napped for sprint success in the John Smith's Scottish Stewards' Cup at Hamilton.
