Elena Baltacha qualifies for Hobart

BRITISH No1 Elena Baltacha has qualified for the Moorilla Hobart International WTA Tournament thanks to a 7-5, 7-6(7-3) win over former world No5 and 2007 Hobart champion Anna Chakvetadze. It is the second time in two weeks that Baltacha, currently ranked 84, has qualified for a WTA tournament. The Scot battled her way into the main draw in last week's ASB Classic in Auckland as well.

Baltacha will play former WImbledon semi-finalist Jelena Dokic (ranked 56) in the first round in Hobart today. It will be their second meeting and Baltacha came close to beating Dokic in their first-round match at Wimbledon in 2003.
