Eight Scots win in South Africa

KRIS Nicol spearheaded a dominant Scottish display in the opening matchplay round of the South African Amateur Championship at Vaal de Grace yesterday.

The Fraserburgh golfer, who finished second in the 36-hole strokeplay qualifier, eased to a 4 and 2 win over Richard Crawshay-Hall as all eight Scottish hopefuls overcame the first hurdle.

Nicol will now face a last-32 clash with Troon's Scottish champion Michael Stewart, who beat Leon Scheepers 2 and 1.
