Edinburgh U18 0 - 29 Caledonia U18: Understrength Edinburgh side can't match Caledonia

Caledonia powered to their second victory in the Scottish Under 18 National Selection Fixtures with a comfortable win at Myreside over an understrength Edinburgh team.

The home side were missing eight players who were involved in Saturday's Brewin Dolphin Cup schools final at Murrayfield.

Even so Caledonia impressed with their continuity skills, strong forward play and tight defence that kept Edinburgh from scoring any points.

"We played a composed game and rugby in the right areas of the field," said Caledonia Reds coach Colin Sangster.

"Overall this was a much better performance than last week against Borders."

Caledonia, aiming to finish unbeaten when they face Glasgow at Stirling next Sunday, led 14-0 at the break with tries by Stirling flanker Ruaridh Leishman from a break by Dunfermline centre Martin Scade and Aberdeen stand-off Ewan Brumwell who converted both scores.

Then in the second half a surge by Strathallan flanker Alex Henderson set up a try for the Dollar hooker, Jack Dunn, before Brumwell added a penalty and converted his side's fourth try scored by Stirling wing Matt Lamb from clever approach work by scrum-half Tom Wilson.

In the other district game yesterday, Glasgow bounced back from their defeat by Edinburgh to achieve a 17-11 victory against Borders at Dumfries.

Glasgow's tries came from Cumnock scrum half Scott Houston, Glasgow High School flanker Murray Cubie and Dumfries lock Callum Templeton.

The only try for Borders was scored by replacement Richie Todd.
