Edinburgh-based Beth Allen claims third LET title triumph

Edinburgh-based American Beth Allen is on course to claim the LET Order of Merit crown after recording her third title triumph of the season.

The 34-year-old Californian equalled the course record with a scorching final round of eight-under-par 64 at Saadiyat Beach Golf Club to win the inaugural Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open in Abu Dhabi.

With a 72-hole total of 21-under-par, Allen finished three strokes clear of overnight leader Georgia Hall (69), with Scotland’s Vikki Laing giving a good account of herself in joint-fifth.

Allen, winner of the European Masters and Spanish Open earlier in the season, has moved almost €50,000 euros ahead of China’s Shanshan Feng on the Order of Merit with three ranking events remaining.

“I really want to win the order of merit and I certainly think today helped,” she said. “It’s so amazing to win an event that’s taking place for the first time.”

On the Challenge Tour, Duncan Stewart finished 10th on the money-list after the second-tier circuit’s Grand Final in Oman.

Elsewhere, David Law, Grant Forrest and Ross Kellett all remained to the fore after the second round of the European Tour Qualifying School stage two events in Spain.

Law, who’d led after an opening 65 at Lumine Beach, backed that up with a 69 to sit one off the pace, with Kellett a shot further back.

Forrest followed his opening 67 at Las Colinas with an equally solid 68 to lie just two shots off the lead there.

At El Saler, Wallace Booth slipped back after a 74 - seven more than his opening effort - but Ewen Fergson leapt up the leaderboard with a 69.
