Edinburgh Accies 18 - 15 Boroughmuir: Accies edge tight encounter

Edinburgh Accies edged out Boroughmuir in an end-to-end tussle, writes Gary Heatly at Raeburn Place.

The visitors started the stronger of the two teams and a great scrum led by front-rowers Robbie Wilson, Sean Crombie and Jonny Latta saw them earn a penalty after five minutes. Stand-off Ally Warnock was successful with the kick and made it 3-0.

Nine minutes later Accies’ stand-off Ruairidh Bonner missed a relatively straightforward penalty of his own after winger Matt Coupar had gone close to a try.

It was ’Muir who extended their lead to 10-0 in the 28th minute though when a good team move gave young full-back Damien Hoyland some space in midfield.

He burst on to the ball on the halfway line and his pace did the rest, going over for a great converted try.

Accies did get themselves into things just before the interval, the ball being hacked up the pitch numerous times with centre Nyle Godsmark eventually getting the touchdown to reduce the deficit to 10-5 going into the break. And 11 minutes after half time they were back on level terms, taking advantage of the sin-binning of ’Muir second-row Greig Scott in the 50th minute to rumble over for a try by prop Alex Allan.

With their 14 men ’Muir managed to regain the lead with 21 minutes to go, winger Redha Guedroudj finishing off a good team move with hooker Crombie putting him in.

Once again Accies levelled things with ten minutes to go thanks to a try by skipper Dan Teague and Bonner’s drop goal three minutes later saw them home despite late ’Muir pressure.
