Eddie May to coach Rangers youngsters

FORMER Falkirk manager Eddie May has joined Rangers as part of their youth coaching staff.

The 42-year-old will take on the role at Murray Park on a part-time basis.

May parted company with Falkirk in February after a short spell at the helm. Head of youth development Jim Sinclair told www.rangers.co.uk: "I wouldn't want to speak for Eddie but I think he sees his strengths as being able to really develop young players and he'll have that chance at Murray Park.

"He has a great reputation from his time with Falkirk and a fantastic work ethic and attitude to his coaching.

"He's also a really down to earth guy and was really keen to come along and get involved. The fact that he has been involved at first team level wasn't an issue for him, he was just really eager to be coaching again and we're welcoming him with open arms."

Elsewhere in the SPL, former Berwick Rangers manager Allan McGonigal has been appointed under-19 manager at Hamilton, just a month after leading junior side Bo'ness to their first league title in 41 years.

McGonigal, 46, was a striker in his playing days with Meadowbank, Falkirk, Cowdenbeath, East Fife and East Stirlingshire. He was assistant manager at Dumbarton, Forfar and Stenhousemuir before success at Camelon saw him land the top job at Shielfield in the summer of 2008.

His stay there was brief and he left in the November of that year before being appointed manager at Newtown Park a year ago. McGonigal said of his new position: "Hamilton have been at the forefront of youth development in Scotland for a number of years and my role is to help keep that going. Many clubs may be cutting back on their youth programmes, however in my discussions with the chairman here, Ronnie MacDonald, he emphasised Hamilton's commitment to youth."

• Queen's Park captain Richard Sinclair has signed on for a 12th season at the Hampden club, with the defender determined to recover from the ankle injury that has kept him out since February and re-establish himself in Gardner Speirs' starting line-up. Speirs said: "Richard is a very well respected character at the club and everyone is looking forward to having him fit and available."
