East of Scotland: Whitehill march onward

Whitehill Welfare marched into the second round of the King Cup when two goals in two minutes early in the second-half from Scott Gormley and Ross Allum earned the Roswell club a 2-0 win against Craigroyston.

In the same competition Gala Fairydean gave Spartans a shock when Paul Young scored after only 49 seconds but the home side retaliated with goals from Keith McLeod, Gavin Malin, Ross Archibald and Alex King to win 4-1. Edinburgh City were 2-0 victors over Civil Service Strollers with goals in each half from Douglas Gair and Euan Black.

Selkirk required penalties to overcome Heriot-Watt University after a 0-0 stalemate following 90 minutes and extra time, the Souters eventually triumphing 4-3. Eyemouth United beat Kelso United 3-1 and Ormiston beat Coldstream 1-0.

In the Central Taxis Premier Division, Edinburgh University and Stirling University drew 0-0; First Division leaders Leith Athletic beat Berwick Rangers Reserves 4-3 and Gretna 2008 beat Easthouses Lily 1-0.
