East of Scotland: McLeod to the rescue for Spartans against City

Spartans began their defence of the Central Taxis Premier Division title with a highly entertaining 1-1 draw against Edinburgh City. Darren Moonie gave City an early lead which they held until the second half before Keith McLeod equalised with a powerful 20-yard shot.

The students of Stirling University lead the table after their 6-0 demolition of Selkirk thanks to goals from Calum Scott (2), Creag Robertson, Daniel Denholm, Jason Atkins and Liam Corr.

Preston Athletic beat Whitehill Welfare 3-2 with recent signing Marc Lothian the match-winner. Kevin Haynes and Chris Barton also netted for Preston while Andrew Kidd notched a double for Whitehill.

Danny Rennie and Craig Dickson earned Civil Service Strollers all three points in their 2-1 win against Lothian Thistle whose goal was scored by Jim Young.

Scott Moffat was on target for Vale of Leithen as they beat Heriot-Watt University 1-0 while the students of Edinburgh University defeated Tynecastle 2-1 with Graeme Hunter and a trialist on the scoresheet and Wayne McIntosh hit home Tynecastle's solitary goal. In the First Division, Craigroyston and Gretna 2008 fought out a tense 2-2 draw. Stuart Martin and Keith Pullen scored for Craigroyston with Steven Black and Dean Rea on target for Gretna
