East of Scotland: Leith Athletic eyes on promotion

Leith Athletic, the league's latest recruits, look set for promotion from the Central Taxis First Division after their 2-1 victory against Easthouses Lily. Leith opened up a 13 points gap on challengers Gala Fairydean, with goals from Jack Combe and Darren Smith, while Ross Gaylor notched a reply.

Craigroyston recorded a 3-0 win against Ormiston thanks to a first-half hat-trick from Ubong Umotong to keep them on the fringes of the promotion race. In the Premier Division, Spartans comfortably disposed of Edinburgh City at Meadowbank Stadium with a 5-1 scoreline. Keith McLeod (2), Ross Archibald (2) and Jack Beesley were the Spartans marksmen, while Andy Howat scored for City.

Vale of Leithen moved into the top half of the table with a 4-0 away win against second-bottom Preston Athletic. Scott Moffat (2), Kerr Dodds and Graeme Cole were goalscorers.

Peebles Rovers continued with their improved form under new manager Stuart Robertson with a 3-1 King Cup win against Hawick Royal Albert thanks to goals from James Innes, Kevin Martin and Elliot Black, while Ross Wallace netted for Hawick.
