East of Scotland: Late goal surge by Edinburgh City sees off Tynecastle

The SFA South Region Challenge Cup dominated the weekend's proceedings with Edinburgh City warming up for Saturday's Scottish Cup tie against Clachnacuddin by scoring three late goals to defeat Tynecastle 4-1.

Ruaraidh Scott gave City the lead before Wayne McIntosh equalised but three goals in three minutes from Ross Guthrie, Andy Howat and Jorge Vinelli saw City progress.

Civil Service Strollers beat Burntisland Shipyard 3-0 with strikes from Bobby Gay, Craig Dickson and Gary Calvey, while Ross Gaylor and an Ean Grieve own goal saw Easthouses Lily kill off the hopes of Lothian Thistle 2-0.

Selkirk needed penalty kicks to beat Edinburgh University 4-3 after the game finished 0-0 after extra-time.

Ormiston recorded their best win of the season by beating Whitehill Welfare 4-1 thanks to goals from Craig Fisher, Richie Fairnie, John Collins and Jason Young. Spartans edged past Stirling University 5-3 on penalty kicks after they had drawn 1-1 while Preston Athletic beat Peebles 5-0.

There were also wins for Gretna 2008, Vale of Leithen and Eyemouth United.

In the Central Taxis First Division, Gala Fairydean maintained their 100 per cent record this season with a 3-2 win against Craigroyston, Berwick Rangers Reserves won 3-1 at Coldstream and Leith Athletic returned from Kelso United with a 3-1 win.
