East of Scotland: Cup success for students

Stirling University overcame a determined Selkirk side with goals in each half from striker Emmot Parr-Gallagher to advance to the quarter-finals of the King Cup.

Danny Denholm set up Parr-Gallagher who netted the opener with a powerful header. Stirling always looked likely to add to their total although they had to wait until 15 minutes from the end when Denholm was fouled in the penalty box and Parr-Gallagher netted his second from the spot. Edinburgh University, in the same competition, returned from a difficult away trip with a 1-0 win against Gretna 2008 at Raydale Park thanks to a late penalty from by James Craigen.

In the SFA South Region Challenge Cup, Threave Rovers progressed to the semis with an extra-time winner as they defeated Civil Service Strollers 2-1 in Edinburgh. Andrew Donley put Threave ahead before Peter Newby equalised from the penalty spot. The winner came from an own goal by Russell Hogarth.

In the Central Taxis First Division, Gala Fairydean thumped nine-man Kelso United 7-2.
