East of Scotland: Capital students sit pretty

Edinburgh University maintained their 100 per cent record and their place at the top of the Central Taxis Premier Division with a second-half goal from midfielder James Brownie in their 1-0 win against Lothian Thistle.

Spartans sit two points behind after their 5-0 victory away to Civil Service Strollers. Keith McLeod (2), Gavin Malin, Dean Hoskins and Chris Townsley were on target. Selkirk kept up the pressure with a well-earned 2-1 win against Tynecastle with a penalty from Jason Inglis and a header from Paul Hossack. Wayne McIntosh netted for Tynecastle.

A double from Lindsay Stewart gave Preston Athletic a 2-1 advantage over Heriot-Watt University whose strike came from Chris Donnelly. Edinburgh City shared the points in a 1-1 draw with Vale of Leithen after Andy Howat gave them the lead before Scott Moffat equalised. Whitehill Welfare and Stirling University drew 2-2 with Whitehill's goals coming from William Kidd and Ross Allum while Emmot Parr- Gallagher and Craig Mason netted for the students.
