Dundonald victory a lift for Wallace Booth

Wallace Booth will head for this week's Northern Open in upbeat mood after winning stage one of the weather-delayed European Tour qualifying school at Dundonald Links.

The Comrie rookie, who had not played since April due to a niggling shoulder injury, marked his return in style with a closing three-under 69 for a one-under 287 to win by three shots from Irishman, Damian Mooney.

Booth, who picked up the first prize of 1500, was one of eight Scots who progressed to stage two of the Q-school marathon in Spain in November.

Jack Doherty eased through in a share of fourth on 296 after a 73 while former PGA Cup player Craig Matheson tied for eighth on 300 after a 74.

Graham Fox and Mark Kerr (both 302) and Craigielaw's Shaun McAllister (303) also made the grade while Stephen Gray and Jason McCreadie qualified with nothing to spare on the 304 limit. Scott Henderson, Scottish Amateur runner-up Jordan Findlay and Colville Park's Paul O'Hara were among the Scots to fall at the first hurdle.

At Fleesensee in Germany, where play was also disrupted, host nation amateur Max Kieffer led the 25 qualifers on a 12-under 276 after a closing 65.
