Dundee United reject Blackpool bid for David Goodwillie

BLACKPOOL last night made their move for Dundee United striker David Goodwillie.

The Championship side have been monitoring the 22-year-old for a number of months and, after asking United to keep them up-to-date with developments in his recent off-field problems, finally tabled an offer.

Goodwillie was informed this week that he would not face a court case over a sexual assault allegation and this has spurred interested parties into action.

Blackpool chairman Karl Oyston is understood to have bid around 1.6 million plus add-ons, but was told by Tannadice owner Stephen Thompson that it was not enough to tempt him to sell.

United are looking for at least 2m in hard cash for the Scotland international and on Monday turned down a deal with Rangers which could have eventually netted them 1.4m.

Blackpool have told United that their offer remains on the table and further negotiations are likely to take place between the two clubs in the coming days.

Roberto Martinez, manager of Premiership side Wigan, has also expressed an interest, as well as several other Championship teams, so United are content to sit tight in order to get the full amount they are looking for.
