Dundee HSFP 48 - 24 Heriot's: Dundee spring a surprise with drubbing of Heriot's

Dundee director of rugby Ian Rankin had faith his side would give someone "a doing" when they got their defence in order, but even he was surprised the victims were Heriot's.

For the fifth week out of six Rankin's side were part of an entertaining ten-try feast, except this time the Mayfield team had a 7-3 count in their favour as they slashed open the visitor's backline almost at will.

"That's our most complete performance in months, and to do it against a high-quality side like Heriot's is very satisfying," said Rankin.

Wing James Fleming scored a hat-trick of tries, although he was given the space he needed by Peter Horne, who outplayed returning Mayfield favourite Cammy Ferguson. Four other ex-Dundee players in the Heriot's side gave their all and Ferguson and Scott Burnett scored tries, but it can't have been pleasant for them in the bar afterwards.

Heriot's problems stemmed from hammering on the Dundee line for 20 minutes in the first half, forcing a yellow card for Neil Dymock, but conceded tries to Fleming and Harry Duthie when a man up.
