Dundee HSFP 20 - 0 West of Scotland: Dundee reaping rewards of hard work

THROUGHOUT the campaign, Dundee coach Ian Rankin has been calling for consistency in performance level and results.

And after months on the roller-coaster he appears to have got his wish and now the Taysiders are heading for a well-merited top-four finish in the Premiership.

Though this was not their most sparkling display of the season, what shone through was a lofty degree of efficiency and a clinical attitude when it came to chance-taking.

Playing aggressively and looking to run at every opportunity Dundee had most of the game in the early stages.

Greg Ryan opened their account with a try in the wake of a penalty lineout and fine work by Robin Cessford, Cammy Ferguson and Alan Brown.

James Fleming converted – the first of two pinpoint kicks.

He launched the move which led to the second score, Brown popping it up for Aubrey Horton to finish.

The match the developed a pattern of Dundee possession followed by knock-ons coupled with solid defending from the visitors. The home side made sure of the victory with another touchdown in the dying seconds.

Despite Ferguson being the victim of a late challenge by former team-mate Mark Jenkinson, Fleming raced in for the vital touch.
