Duell breaks Newtongrange hearts

Newtongrange were denied a first Super League win of the season as Forfar West End struck deep into injury time to snatch the three points.

Chances were few and far between in a largely disappointing first half. Stewart McConnachie capitalised on a Shaun Woodburn slip after seven minutes but Star keeper Chris Hill was alert to block his penalty- box shot. Newtongrange showed their attacking intent on 19 minutes when Joe Dunbar cut the ball back for Aaron Somerville in the box but Forfar were able to scramble the ball away before he could strike.

On the stroke of half-time, Bryan Duell's dipping effort went narrowly over for the visitors. Star took the lead on 60 minutes when Dunbar's inswinging free-kick from the left wing struck the inside of the Forfar post and crossed the line. However, with seven minutes remaining, Daryl McKenzie slipped the ball into the path of Mark Pirie inside the area and he slid the ball under Hill for the equaliser. The match appeared to be heading for a draw, but it was Duell who broke Star hearts on 90 minutes with a curling effort from 20 yards to keep the visitors top of the league.
