Doolan added to list of stars for Wethers’ testimonial

Ipswich Aussie Kevin Doolan is the latest name to be added to the field for Matthew Wethers’ testimonial speedway meeting at Armadale tomorrow.

Doolan is the first to admit that this season has been something of a rollercoaster for him so far. He rarely, however, has a bad meeting at the Lothian Arena and was a finalist in the Scottish Open Championship which kicked off Edinburgh Monarchs’ 2012 campaign back in March.

Doolan said: “I have known Matthew for a long time. He lived in Adelaide and I saw him grow up in the junior ranks. He was a good kid and
always wanted to learn and
listen, he is a good professional rider.”

And former Monarch Magnus Karlsson has also signed up for the star-studded event. Karlsson, now with Leicester Lions, was a team-mate of Wethers when they both picked up a championship winner’s medal when Monarchs clinched their first Premier League title in 2003.

Wethers said: “I’m delighted that Magnus has agreed to turn out for me. It was always enjoyable having him in the
Monarchs side, he was always good fun.”

Glasgow Tigers duo James Grieves and Joe Screen, Belle Vue’s Rory Schlein and
Berwick skipper Lee Complin are the other previously announced names.

Meanwhile the testimonial cycle speedway event scheduled for Redbraes Park this Saturday has been postponed until
August 18.
