Doak’s 67 puts him into contention

CHALLENGE TOUR: Chris Doak will lead the Scottish challenge into the final two rounds of the Golf Open Grand Toulouse on the European Challenge Tour. The 33-year-old Greenock man carded a second-round 67 at Golf de Toulouse-Seilh in south-west France to add to his opening 69 for a six-under-par 136 to sit in a tie for 16th place, six shots behind leader Matthew Baldwin, of England.

Doak will be joined in the weekend action by fellow Scots James Byrne and Craig Lee. Byrne, playing in his first professional event following his Walker Cup heroics of a fortnight ago, could not quite repeat the fireworks of his opening 65 and had to settle for a 72 for 21st place on 137, while Lee added a 70 to his opening 68 for 138 and 33rd place. Jamie McLeary and Jack Doherty were three shots outside the cut mark on 143, with Gavin Dear on 144.
