Division 2 round-up: Leaders Forfar forced to rue their missed chances

FORFAR remain top of the Second Division on goal difference after 1-1 draw with visitors Brechin.

Alloa and Livingston both won at the weekend to draw level on the seven points with Dick Campbell's team.

Chris Templeman headed Forfar in front on 59 minutes, only for substitute Charlie King to cancel out the lead 18 minutes later when he converted a Kevin Byers cross. Campbell said: "Even when they got it back to one each we had chances to win."

Alloa warmed up for tomorrow night's Co-operative Insurance Cup tie against Aberdeen by defeating local rivals Stenhousemuir 1-0. Manager Allan Maitland said: "This is a huge result for us and sets us up nicely for the Aberdeen game. To come to a side that is bang in form and win along with keeping a clean sheet is excellent."

Wasps' striker Bryan Prunty showed his predatory instincts after just 12 minutes when he took advantage of slackness in the home defence to lift the ball over Ally Brown for the game's only goal.

Livingston came from behind to beat Airdrie United 2-1 after Scott Gemmill had given the Diamonds an early lead. Iain Russell scored for the fourth game in a row to level midway through the first half with substitute Raffaele De Vita volleying in the winner with 17 minutes to go. Livingston manager Gary Bollan said: "We got the win without playing consistently well."

Ayr United, with former St Johnstone goalkeeper Alan Main playing as a trialist, won for the first time in the league with Paul Maxwell's own goal giving them a 1-0 success over pointless Dumbarton. Peterhead also sit on the zero mark as they went down 2-1 at East Fife.
