Dettori can still go that extra mile

FRANKIE Dettori was at his peerless best as he rode an approximate 238-1 hat-trick to light up the Rowley Mile racecourse at Newmarket.

The Italian appeared in unstoppable form yesterday as victories for the Godolphin-trained Al Sharood and Film Score sandwiched a success on Radlett handler Dean Ivory's Ellemujie. It could have been even better for Dettori as he hit the front aboard St Moritz late on in the Edmondson Hall Solicitors & Sports Lawyers Handicap – the fourth race on the card. But Hayley Turner executed a perfect late challenge on 10-1 shot Dubai Dynamo to get up on the line for a head success.

Clutching the champagne for her victory, Turner said: "Frankie has just told me that I've spoilt his party – or something along those lines!"

Trainer Ruth Carr was thrilled at the triumph, her first with her first runner at the home of racing. She said: "If anyone was wondering who the mad woman was jumping around in front of the big screen in the parade ring, it was me!"

The Yorkshire trainer added: "We will be looking to use Hayley as much as possible as she has had two winners from her four rides for me."

But Dettori could still reflect on a great day in which Godolphin trainer Mahmood Al Zarooni also registered his first winners at HQ.

Of his treble, Dettori appeared most delighted with the win of Ellemujie in the Lloyds TSB Commercial Handicap.
