Despite extra weight, Move In Time defies 19 rivals

MOVE In Time defied a 10lb rise and 19 rivals in the Bet365 Handicap at Doncaster.

Now in the care of David O’Meara after leaving Bryan Smart, he had hacked up at Musselburgh two weeks ago but the handicapper took evasive action.

However, the 7-1 shot displayed a smart turn of foot not seen since his three-year-old days, when he was rated over 100, and Danny Tudhope took a length out of the field a furlong and a half out.

Shropshire and Hitchens made late progress but Move In Time comfortably held them off for a three-quarters of a length win.

Hamza stuck on well for fourth.

“The way he finished off over five last time we were fairly confident he’d stay,” said O’Meara. “I asked Dave Nolan, who rode him up there, and he had no doubts at all. Also he’d won over six at two.

“He’s won off 95 [lbs] today and was 102 at his peak so I thought the 10lb rise was fair, it could have been a couple more. I don’t know where we’ll go but he’s in the Abernant [at Newmarket on Thursday].”

Earlier, Black Caviar won her 15th Group One success as she landed the Darley TJ Smith Stakes at Randwick in Australia. Winner of the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot last year, the mare was a little keen in the early stages under regular rider Luke Nolen as Rain Affair went out in front.

Racing in third, Nolen switched wide at the top of the straight and Black Caviar lengthened her stride to pull clear of runner-up Epaulette in effortless fashion. The Peter Moody-trained mare is now unbeaten in 25 starts and drew a huge crowd to the Sydney track.
