Davis claims he can do better for Rangers

There has been little criticism of Steven Davis since the Northern Ireland midfielder moved to Rangers but the player himself believes he can do better this season.

Davis won the PFA Scotland Player of the Year award last season despite being played in a wide role rather than his preferred central midfield position for most of the season.

The former Aston Villa and Fulham midfielder looked set to occupy the central berth this season but injuries to the likes of Kyle Lafferty have meant Davis has been needed in the wide-right position again, and the 25-year-old feels he has still to match last season's level of performance.

"I think my form has been a little indifferent," Davis said. "I don't think I've had the consistency I have had over the past couple of seasons. I have said that I want to play in the middle of the park and I have been there at different times but on other occasions I have played on the right. I definitely feel there is better to come from me."

Davis will have ample opportunity to find his form in the coming months as Rangers prepare for an assault on four fronts. The Light Blues face six SPL games in 23 days, weather permitting, starting with tomorrow's clash at Inverness.

January brings a Scottish Cup tie against Kilmarnock and a Co-operative Insurance Cup semi-final against Motherwell, before Rangers begin their Europa League campaign in February following the conclusion of their Champions League campaign in Turkey last Tuesday night.
