Davies asks Forest fans to play decisive role

MANAGER Billy Davies has called for Nottingham Forest fans to turn the City Ground into a cauldron of noise tonight for the decisive second leg of the Coca-Cola Championship play-off semi-final against Blackpool.

Forest must overturn a 2-1 deficit if they are to reach the final at Wembley on 22 May.

Davies, who has now guided three different clubs to the Championship play-offs having led Derby to promotion glory in 2007 and Preston to this stage in 2006 and 2005, believes the supporters can play a key role.

"It was a good atmosphere at Blackpool on Saturday and we want it to be a great one at our place," said Davies.

"This place (the City Ground) can be a cauldron and the fans can make the atmosphere electric. I would ask the fans to get right behind us from the first minute to the last."

Davies knows his side must be more clinical in front of goal if they are to go through. Forest spurned several good chances in the first leg at Bloomfield Road, as well as hitting the bar and having two further efforts cleared off the line.

The former Motherwell manager is confident of getting the win if Forest create the same number of chances tonight.

"We should have unpicked Blackpool at their place – we should have scored three or four goals," said Davies.

"Obviously, if we had done that we would be in a much better position.

"In the first 45 minutes we were excellent. We also had a dozen chances in total. But it typified the away performances we have had in that we did not play too bad in the first-half but we were not clinical.

"But if we can create as many chances at the City Ground, we will certainly be optimistic."

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has acknowledged Forest's formidable home record but he believes they can head to Nottingham buoyed by their sequence of results against Davies' side this season.

The Seasiders beat Forest for the third time on Saturday after achieving a double over them during the regular league campaign.

"Forest have got an outstanding home record and they know that," said Holloway.

"But we have got nothing to fear.

We have got to go there and play the best we have ever played in our lives to beat a very good team."
