David Wotherspoon confident Hibs will get back to home comforts

DAVID Wotherspoon is sure Hibernian are ready to put a run of bad form behind them today when they meet Inverness Caledonian Thistle. John Hughes' team have lost their last six matches at Easter Road, but Scotland Under-21 midfielder Wotherspoon insists the squad remain in a positive frame of mind.

That run of home defeats includes four games from the end of last season, as well as a defeat by Maribor In Europe,, and Wotherspoon argues that Hibs have been playing reasonably well in most of their games this term, the exception being an away loss to St Mirren. "I thought we played well in the Rangers game and lost - I thought we were just unlucky," he said of the 3-0 reverse which is the only SPL game Hibs have so far played at home this season. "Against St Mirren I don't think we turned up. We lost 1-0 and I don't think it was a good game for us. We'll put that one to bed and head into this one with a positive mindset.

"We had the international break and I think it was a wee blessing in disguise - we managed to get it out the way and hopefully we can win this weekend."

Like Hibs, Caley Thistle have won one and lost two of their three league games to date, having lost to Celtic, enjoyed a stunning 4-0 win at Tannadice and then been beaten at home by Hamilton Accies. "I watched the Celtic game when they got beat 1-0 and they were very resilient and good at the back," Wotherspoon continued. "They have shown good attitude coming up (from the First Division] and obviously they can score goals - they won 4-0 at Tannadice and that's an achievement in itself. That's the way football is: you can't predict anything. They've started off really well and shown they can do well in this league."

The transfer of Anthony Stokes to Celtic has attracted more attention than the half-dozen new recruits made by John Hughes, and some Hibs fans fear the loss of the striker will outweigh any gains to be made from the additions to the squad. Wotherspoon, however, is confident that players such as Darryl Duffy and Francis Dickoh can make an impact.

"I have not seen Stokesy since I went away (on Scotland Under-21 duty]. All the best to him in his career - I hope he does well. I have come in and I've not actually thought about it, I've got on with training. The boys wished him all the best and we're just getting on with our careers. We've got our own club to worry about.

"We've brought in a few players and they've settled in really well. They've looked really good in training and hopefully we can progress from there."

Meanwhile, Inverness midfielder Lee Cox believes the excitement surrounding the club's return to the top flight can help Caley Thistle to another shock away win. The Irn-Bru First Division champions are looking to follow their 4-0 victory at Dundee United with a result today. Terry Butcher's side, who added Stuart Duff to their ranks this week, have not been beaten in a league game away from home since November last year. Cox, who signed from Leicester last summer, is relishing each new experience in the SPL and is confident of turning that positive energy into points in Edinburgh.

"We've got a lot of positives to take from the start of the season, we played really well at Dundee United but not so much against Hamilton with that early goal killing us," the 20-year-old said. "We've got to happy because we've played well in the game as Celtic as well.

"I'm really enjoying it at the minute, every Saturday brings some excitement and it's helped by a great atmosphere in training, which has been good in the last few days.

"Everyone has been upbeat and just waiting for the next challenge. The SPL is obviously a lot sharper, you have to concentrate even more in games and you've got to be up for every game and be up for every challenge.

"I've not played Hibernian before but I'm sure the manager will have us focused on our qualities and if our game plan is 100 per cent right then I'm sure we'll do well.

"Every game away from home is going to be new for me because I've never played at any of these grounds, so I'll just be trying to enjoy every game."
