David Weir happy to wait for Rangers deal

DAVID WEIR insists he is in no rush to thrash out his Rangers future.

The 40-year-old defender is out of contract at the end of the month and has been operating on a season-by-season basis since his arrival in Glasgow in January 2007.

He has yet to sign a new deal with the Scottish champions, with a number of other out-of-contract players also in limbo amid the financial uncertainty which surrounds the club.

Boss Walter Smith, who brought Weir to Rangers when he returned for a second spell at the club, has yet to confirm whether he will remain at the helm to defend the Premier League title and that is also an issue for the former Hearts and Everton player to consider as he weighs up his next move.

Weir, however, is adamant the delay in resolving his future is not causing him any undue stress – as he's grown used to being in limbo.

He said: "I haven't seen the manager since the end of the season really. We were at a couple of dinners and I saw him there. But we'll speak when the time is right.

"I'm quite happy. I just want to do the right thing. I don't need the security of a contract. I'm not that type of person. That's not the priority for me."

However, he did reveal his first choice for next term is to stay at Ibrox. "My priority is Rangers," he said. "Rangers have been good to me and I've enjoyed every minute."
