David tipped for Scots call

MORGARO GOMIS has backed David Goodwillie to be the next Dundee United player to make the breakthrough to the Scotland squad after both players combined to claim a 3-0 win over Falkirk.

Goodwillie grabbed his ninth goal of the season when he set the ball rolling on the victory from the penalty spot, before Gomis netted a double as the Tangerines moved into third spot in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.

The youngster is set to represent Scotland Under-21s when they play host to Azerbaijan tomorrow night. But, after watching United team-mates Andy Webster, Paul Dixon and Garry Kenneth earn call-ups to the senior squad for the friendly against Czech Republic, Gomis fully expects Goodwillie to make the step up soon. "I don't see why not if he continues playing well and scoring goals," said the midfielder.

"He's got a good future in the game and just needs to carry on working hard."

Hibs' draw against St Johnstone allowed United to move into third place and Gomis believes they can hold on to their lofty status.

He said: "It's good for us to be in that position just now. I think it's a realistic target to stay there."

It was a chance missed for rock-bottom Falkirk after nearest rivals St Mirren and Hamilton battled out a goalless draw in Paisley.

But boss Steven Pressley said: "I thought our performance was excellent, I really did. Even at 3-0 down, in the last three or four minutes, we were still at it. We still didn't give up and that pleased me."
