Daryl Jacob makes most of only Musselburgh ride on Seefood

The top weight, sent off 13/8 favourite and a first course success for Dr Richard Newland, beat Wings Of Smoke by five-lengths in the Racing UK HD Handicap Chase.

Jacob, who now boasts a 60 per cent strike-rate from his five rides in the past five years at the East Lothian venue, said: “He didn’t stay 3m 1f at  Cheltenham and this was an easier race as well. I’d say he’d get three miles on a flat track and he’s won pretty well out there today.”

Adam Short recorded his first course winner when the 19-year-old Irishman scored on Castletown Bridge for Paul Stafford in the Racing UK Available Anywhere Chase.

Keith Dalgleish has enjoyed another fabulous year on the Flat and he struck in the  Racing UK In Glorious HD Juvenile Hurdle with jumps debutant Cape Of Glory.

The Carluke trainer said: “He had schooled well and seemed to be taking to hurdling so we let him take his chance. He jumped pretty well today apart from losing his back end at the third last.”

Brian Hughes kept his purple patch going when riding a double on Taurian and Venue.

The former landed the mares’ maiden hurdle for Ian Williams while Venue, trained by Donald McCain, romped home by ten lengths in the 2m handicap hurdle.

At Warwick today, Blue Heron, who suffered a shock reverse on his fencing bow, can make amends with victory in the Lewis Badges 1832  Novices’ Chase.

Rated 155 over hurdles, Dan Skelton’s charge was sent off an odds-on favourite at Market Rasen when tackling a chase event for the first time but he had to give best to Viens  Chercher, who proved too smart at the end.

However, Blue Heron deserves plenty of credit as he jumped well throughout and can be forgiven for lacking a finishing punch as it was his first racecourse outing in 18 months. Expect a sharper performance this time.

Bell Heather can make a seamless switch to the all-weather with victory in the Brewin Dolphin Handicap at Newcastle.

Richard Fahey’s charge has won one of her 10 starts to date on debut at Lingfield last August. She found eventual Group One winner Ventura Storm too good on her second juvenile outing, but the handicapper to award her a mark of 80 at the start of 2016.

The Iffraaj filly twice finished behind Lincoln Rocks at Haydock and Hamilton in August.

Her current mark of 77 looks a little more workable and  she is worth a try on this new surface.
