Darryl Duffy breaks foot to leave Hibs still in need of striker

HIBERNIAN hope to recruit a new striker as a replacement for Darryl Duffy, who faces up to two months on the sidelines after breaking a metatarsal bone in training.

"There are still players going about," Hibs manager John Hughes said. "We're still working hard to try to bring a player in. We're still looking at one or two, and now, with Darryl going, you would like one like him, with good movement."

Duffy was brought in on loan from Bristol Rovers as a replacement for Anthony Stokes, who signed for Celtic on the last day of the transfer window. His loss means that Hughes only has Derek Riordan and Colin Nish as out-and-out strikers, with Danny Galbraith, a substitute in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Inverness, the only other forward-minded player. "Darryl has broken his metatarsal, so he'll be out for six to eight weeks," said Hughes. "He just turned, nobody near him and he just heard it pop. That's the cards we've been dealt with. Tough. We just need to get on with it."

Lithuanian striker Valdas Trayks has been on trial at Easter Road and is available as a free agent. Dutchman Romano Denneboom has also been in talks with the club.

Meanwhile, Hearts manager Jim Jefferies is facing a touchline ban after being sent to the Celtic Park stand in the first half of the 3-0 loss by referee Willie Collum.

Jefferies was upset that Daryl Murphy had not been flagged offside when he set up James Forrest's goal. He also claimed the visitors were denied a penalty at 2-0 down when Celtic defender Emilio Izaguirre clashed with David Templeton. Jefferies has reported Collum after claiming the referee spoke to him "like a two-year-old" at the interval "My record is good but I will probably get banned," he said.
