Dan Wallace Olympic hopes rest with selectors

The Edinburgh swimmer, who is based in Florida, finished a disappointing sixth in the final of the 200m individual medley in 2.00.26. Third in the  400m IM, he has one last chance in the 200m freestyle.

“It’s a shame I couldn’t deliver tonight,” stated a disappointed 23-year-old. “But the shorter distances seem to suit me better so I still believe I can do it tomorrow.”

In the 1500m freestyle, it’s a case of wait and see for Scotland’s Stephen Milne. Teenager Tim Shuttleworth won the event in 14:53.23 – just 0.02 secs outside the Olympic qualifying – and the Perth 21-year-old was second in 14:59.10.

“It was a tough race,” said Milne after the 30-length grind. “I did my best and I’ve got the 200m freestyle tomorrow. I’ll just have to wait and see if I’ve done enough for Olympic selection.”

Milne, a member of Scotland’s gold medal winning 4 x 200m freestyle relay at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, also finished runner-up in the 400m freestyle at the start of the week

Wales’ Jazz Carlin, who was unlucky to miss out on London 2012, finally made sure of her Olympic place with a great win in 4:04.33 in the 400m freestyle.

City of Glasgow’s Camilla Hattersley was fourth in 4:12.04 and she is another who will have an anxious wait before Team GB is announced on Thursday.

She has put herself in the frame with a second place in the 800m freestyle and a fourth in the 200m, which brings her into consideration for relays.
