Damarcus Beasley would take a pay cut to stay at Rangers

DAMARCUS Beasley has all but given up hope of staying at Rangers next season, despite suggesting he would take a pay cut to do so.

United States midfielder Beasley, one of six players out of contract at Ibrox this summer, has yet to be offered a new deal and said: "Rangers haven't spoken to me so I guess you can put two and two together and make your own conclusions. But never say never. I would consider (a pay cut] so I love playing for Rangers and Glasgow feels like home."

The 27-year-old also paid tribute to manager Walter Smith, ranking him alongside his former manager at PSV Eindhoven, Gus Hiddink.

"I think Walter is up there with coaches like Hiddink," he said. "People look at trophies as signs of success and Walter's got a lot."

Despite a recent lack of match action, Beasley is hopeful of being selected for his country's World Cup squad.

"It's been an up and down year and I haven't played as much as I'd like, but I still hope I can make the team," said the former Manchester City player.
