Cycling: Oliphant's to the four

CAPITAL cyclist Evan Oliphant continued his recent winning run with no fewer than four victories on three different surfaces over the weekend, writes COLIN RENTON.

The 28-year-old regained the Scottish 15-kilometre track title at Caird Park in Dundee, coming home clear of former champion Ross Crook (Edinburgh RC).

He then interrupted his trip back to Edinburgh to grab two wins on the grass at Newburgh on Tay Highland Games.

And he saw off a high-class field to bag the main prize at the David Bell Memorial road race in Ayrshire. Oliphant came home more than a minute clear of defending champion Ross Creber, while a third Endura Racing Team rider, Gary Hand, was third.

Meanwhile, Callum Wilkinson, leader of the Scottish Power Renewables Super Six Series, maintained his bid for the overall title by finishing in 11th place.

Elsewhere, Kate Cullen finished strongly at the Zeeuwsche Eilanden in Holland to complete the three-day race as leading Scot with 21st overall behind winner Kirsten Wild (Cervelo), eight spots ahead of former Edinburgh RC rider Pippa Handley.
