Cycling: Oliphant up for hat-trick

Capital cyclist Evan Oliphant is on course for a rare treble this season after posting an impressive double success.

The 29-year-old Endura rider landed the prestigious Anderside Classic, a 73-mile event near Eaglesham, on Saturday then lined up for the Scottish 25-mile time trial championship at Freuchie on Sunday.

Oliphant showed his class by taking gold and breaking the course record with a time of 52 minutes ten seconds. That result, combined with his victory at last month's Scottish road race championships means that Oliphant can achieve a title hat-trick if he can win at the Scottish track championships later in the year. Sunday's time trial also saw Jessica Wilson-Young (Edinburgh RC) take the women's gold medal in 59 minutes ten seconds.

Meanwhile Edinburgh-based James McCallum of Rapha Condor-Sharp beat world track champion Cam Meyer when he finished runner-up to ProTour rider Alex Dowsett (Sky) at the Smithfield Nocturne in London.
