Cycling: Joiner nails third place in Manchester
The triple Scottish champion signed off with third place in the points race, the final leg of the women’s omnium, taking the scalp of the Netherlands’ world and Olympic road race champion Marianne Vos in the process.
However, Joiner was already out of contention for a high placing overall after starting her evening with a disappointing performance in the opening discipline, the elimination race, when she was the first rider out. She then finished 13th in the scratch race. Vos then chalked up overall success ahead of Britain’s Lizzie Armitstead, the Olympic silver medallist.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh Road Club rider Stuart Balfour rounded off a successful year with a solid showing in the DHL Future Stars events, and Flora Gillies of Peebles CC did likewise in the girls competition.
