Cycling: Edinburgh trio bound for British Cyclocross Championships

THREE of the Capital’s most promising young cyclists will make the trip south this weekend to compete at the British Cyclocross Championships in Bradford.

The youngsters will be in action at Peel Park where tough conditions are expected on a circuit that is widely regarded as one of the most challenging in Britain.

Sean Flynn, of Edinburgh Road Club’s Martin Currie Racing Team, which features some of the city’s top emerging talent, will line up in the Youths’ Under-14 event, while Eleanor Strathdee competes in the Girls’ Under-14 race. The trio is completed by another rider from the same squad, Emma Borthwick, who will be looking to challenge in the Girls’ Under-16 competition.

The senior event has attracted a high-class field featuring numerous Great Britain internationalists. Among those travelling from north of the Border is Davie Lines, of the Livingston-based Pedal Power-Endura-Forme Racing team, who has been in good form.

Another potential contender for a podium finish is former City of Edinburgh rider, Eileen Roe, who will be up against a strong field in the women’s event, while Borderer Grant Ferguson should be a challenger in the Under-23 race.
